F1 Fantasy Final Fix Chip Explained: When to Play It

The F1 Fantasy Final Fix chip lets you swap one driver after qualifying and before the Grand Prix, and the new driver scores no qualifying points for you. Play it when something goes wrong after the lock, such as a withdrawal, a post-qualifying grid penalty or a pit-lane start, and hold it on a weekend where qualifying goes to plan.

Every other chip has to be set before the lock. Final Fix is the only one you play after you have seen qualifying, which is why it rewards patience more than planning.

What the Final Fix chip does

Teams lock at the start of qualifying. On a normal weekend, Final Fix opens a window between the end of qualifying and the start of the Grand Prix, and lets you replace one driver in your team.

  • The outgoing driver keeps the points already scored. Their qualifying points stay on your total.
  • The incoming driver scores from the next session only. Qualifying has been scored, so they add Grand Prix points and nothing for qualifying.
  • The Boost follows the swap. If the driver you take out holds your 2X Boost, it moves to the new driver automatically.
  • Drivers only. You cannot swap a constructor with Final Fix.
  • The cost cap still applies, and it does not use a free transfer.
  • After the race, your team reverts to the lineup you had before the swap.

On a Sprint weekend there is a second window, between the Sprint and qualifying. Final Fix unlocks after your first race weekend, and like every chip it can be played once a season, with only one chip per race.

When to use Final Fix in F1 Fantasy

Use it when a driver's Grand Prix is compromised after your team has locked. Three triggers are worth the chip:

  1. A withdrawal. A driver in your team is ruled out before the Grand Prix. Without Final Fix you lose their race score, so the swap recovers a full Grand Prix for that slot.
  2. A post-qualifying grid penalty. A driver in your team, especially your Boost driver, drops well down the grid after qualifying, at a circuit where recovering is hard.
  3. A pit-lane start. Parc fermé changes or a technical problem send a driver to the back, and you want someone starting near the front instead.

A poor qualifying for your Boost driver can also justify it at a low-overtake circuit, if you can afford a better replacement. At most tracks, though, a fast car recovers some of the ground, and the chip is better kept for a withdrawal.

The 2026 top 500 played it most at the Hungarian Grand Prix (R11), where 21.0% used it. There, Hamilton and Antonelli each took three-place grid drops after qualifying and Perez started from the pit lane, according to our 2026 chip data.

Why Final Fix is a reactive chip

You cannot plan a withdrawal or a penalty. Final Fix only has value when something happens after the lock, so the right round is set by events, not by the calendar.

That shows in the numbers. RaceStrategist measures each top 500 chip play as the team's score that round minus the top 500 average. On that measure the top 500's round return on Final Fix was +3.0, against +55.4 for Limitless and +53.6 for the 3X Boost (our 2026 chip data, from RaceStrategist). The average swap gains little, because most weekends give it nothing to fix.

Two things follow. Holding it costs you little while you wait for a trigger. And if no trigger comes, playing it on a quiet weekend gives up little, so it should never be the chip left over after Abu Dhabi. The top 500 hold it longest: at round 19, 51.8% still had Final Fix.

Final Fix vs the Wildcard

The Wildcard rebuilds a team that is wrong for the rest of the season. Final Fix repairs one race that went wrong after you locked.

Where Final Fix fits in the rest of 2026

There are no Sprints left, so the only Final Fix window each weekend is between qualifying and the Grand Prix.

  • Mexico City (R19) to Las Vegas (R21): play it on the first post-qualifying problem in any of these rounds.
  • Las Vegas (R21), if nothing has happened by then. The race is on Saturday, so qualifying and the Final Fix window come a day earlier than usual. If another chip already has Las Vegas, Qatar is the fallback, since only one chip counts per race.
  • Qatar (R22), if you hold four chips at R19. Mexico City, São Paulo and Las Vegas can take only three of them. Play your strongest three there and the weakest, often Final Fix, at Qatar.

Any chip unused after Abu Dhabi is lost. The full run-in plan is in where each chip goes with six races left, and the round-by-round evidence in our 2026 chip data.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Final Fix chip in F1 Fantasy?

A chip that lets you replace one driver after qualifying and before the Grand Prix. The outgoing driver keeps the points already scored, and the new driver scores from the Grand Prix only.

When to use Final Fix in F1 Fantasy?

When a driver's race is compromised after the lock: a withdrawal, a post-qualifying grid penalty or a pit-lane start. If none happens in the 2026 run-in, play it at Las Vegas, or at Qatar if it is the weakest of four chips you hold at R19.

Does the new driver score qualifying points with Final Fix?

No. Qualifying has already been scored, so the incoming driver adds Grand Prix points only.

Does Final Fix use a free transfer?

No. It is a chip, not a transfer, but the cost cap still applies to the driver you bring in.

What happens to my Boost if I swap out my Boost driver?

It moves to the incoming driver automatically, for the Grand Prix only.
